Abstract: This work measured the kinetic data for the etherification of pyrocatechol with methallyl chloride and proposed a kinetic model for the reaction process according to the factor analysis of the reaction process and the data. The model included a desirable main reaction with two concomitant side reactions. The activation energy values of the main and side reactions were obtained, and the optimal reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, time, feeding time of methallyl chloride were discussed based on the reaction model. While a concomitant reaction was intensified at a lower temperature, another concomitant reaction was intensified at a higher temperature.
