Abstract: The degradation mechanism and kinetics of fluorobenzene (FB)was investigated on a platinum electrode.A graphite electrode was used as the counter electrode, and a Ag|AgCl(sat.KCl) electrode was used as the reference electrode.Degradation of FB was affected by several factors, such as pH, current density, FB initial concentration, temperature and NaF concentration. The intermediate products of FB degradation, including phenol, biphenylene, furan-2,5-dione and organic acids, were detected with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and ion chromatography (IC).The degradation mechanism with the formation of free radicals as reactive intermediates was proposed. The degradation of FB in aqueous solutions followed pseudo-second-order kinetics.
